“You guys are leading the science” are the precise words of Jeff Volek RD/PhD when he was first revealing the data from the FASTER Study at a conference in 2014.


In March of 2015, “Metabolic Characteristics of Keto-Adapted Ultra-Endurance Runners” was published, and a seismic shift in metabolic science occurred because never before had a study demonstrated that humans were capable of metabolizing fat at such high rates and intensities.

This resulted in a paradigm-shift in the science of human metabolism and performance, which many are still trying to wrap their heads around and a few remain critical of. 

Performance level fat adaptation was and is created in the field of competition rather than in the lab. As I’ve said before, “The data corroborates the experience. It doesn’t drive it.”

Years before FASTER, the LCD Cohort participants were training, competing and winning by following the OFM protocols, including using VESPA. How do I know this? I personally helped virtually every one of the fat adapted athletes in the study to become fat adapted.

My work was actually first recognized by Dr.’s Volek & Phinnney back in 2010 and subsequently profiled in their 2012 book, “The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance”.
