January is a time of new beginnings and change. And with the past 2 years who isn’t ready for real change? So in today’s vlog, I want to bust the biggest myth of all about OFM, the one that prevents most people from making that fundamental shift to fat as fuel.
Instead of the usual 30 day change challenge I am going to give you the “OFM 3 Minute Challenge” . . . that’s right I am only asking for 3 minutes to set you on a completely different course in Life just like the hundreds of people we’ve helped.
Let’s start with one word: Shoshin . . . Shoshin (初心) is a word from Zen Buddhism meaning "beginner's mind." It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner would.
The challenge to change here is we all need to take a big step back from what you BELIEVE and think you know, because this is a big part of why myths exist in the first place!
The challenge is when a new and transformative concept comes along, our frame of reference naturally tries to shoehorn it into our worldview on that subject rather than consider it on its own merits.
And so it goes with OFM - Optimized Fat Metabolism . . . your instant reaction and thought is KETO right? . . . A simple buzzword that is supposed to conveniently encompass the subject, yet says absolutely nothing and deludes us making real change all the more elusive.
Now ask yourself what you know about keto and why you think OFM is a keto diet?
You possibly have limited preconceived thoughts that are not your own which goes back to what I call being “Sold, Told & Controlled” into a certain frame of reference, your worldview if you will. This keeps us stuck and is the first myth to bust.
You are an individual and you have a brain fully capable of developing your own thoughts rather than cede them to the convenience of trendy internet buzzwords.
Now take that step back to approach OFM with the “Child’s Mind” of Shoshin to see how you optimize your native physiology and metabolism through the tools of diet, physical activity and lifestyle. It is not one diet. It is YOUR diet.It is not a rigid training plan but one where we integrate and synchronize your training load with your lifeload. And it is a sustainable lifestyle so you can LIVE!
